Assessment

Assessment:

  • There are two separate assessments for this class.  Everyone will receive a assessment that will appear on your Report Card at the end of the course in grade 11 and 12 to ensure that you get three credits for each from Alberta Education. For your evaluation for the IB Diploma it will also be done by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). Your IB evaluation will then be combined with your Extended Essay results to see if you qualify for bonus points for your diploma.
  • For the purposes of our grade 11 course you will be evaluated based on your reflective writing which will be in largely on your blogs, but will also include paragraph responses. Your active participation online with your cohort as well as in our seminars and discussions when we are together are important for your learning.
  • Formative assessment: in many way this course is setting the groundwork for Theory of Knowledge in grade 12. As such the work that you will be doing and that you will be reviewing of others will be there to help you prepare for those assessments.
  • Your evaluation is largely based on the through completion of your blog entries and comments.
  • Your written responses will be evaluated by your classmates through the PeerReview function on Turnitin.com.
  • Your presentations will be evaluated by a team of teachers. You must sign up for and commit to a presentation time in order to ensure that everyone has an fair opportunity.
  • Your course mark will be roughly broken down as follows:
  • Blogs/comments: 50%
  • Written responses: 20%
  • Presentations: 30%
